The Shortfin Mako shark (Isurus oxyrinchus) is one of the highly evolved sharks that can keep its body temporature a few degrees warmer than the surrounding water. Perhaps being warmer contributes to its ability to swim faster than other sharks and to grow rapidly. Mako embryos develop fully inside the mother and are even able to feed themselves on undeveloped eggs.
